Who I Am
I am an aspiring dietitian with a desire to improve the quality of life for those who suffer, through the power of food and nutrition. Over the course of my college career at Seattle Pacific University, I acquired experiences in both third world countries and in Seattle, where I worked with the world’s most vulnerable and disenfranchised, and cultivated skills in both the clinical and community nutrition settings. These experiences drove me to absorb as much knowledge as possible in my nutrition courses, acquire leadership positions within my program, and obtain memberships in professional associations in order to gain applicable skills which would assist me in my future career.

Where I Was Recently
I just finished my dietetic internship at OHSU. During my internship, I was continually challenged and stretched to adapt to new situations that I was placed in and grew so much in my knowge of nutrition. l came out of this program prepared and ready for a career in dietetics.

Where I Am Now Just studying everyday for my RD Exam!

Why Dietetics?
I became interested in dietetics after registering for an introductory nutrition class. But it was during the summer of 2008, while I was half way across the world in Hyderabad, India, that I realized that dietetics was truly the field for me. Though I had already started taking pre-requisite courses for the major, I had not yet been able to really picture myself as a future dietitian. For two whole months, I witnessed hundreds of children suffering from diseases caused by a lack of food and proper nutrition. I observed the work of trained medical professionals in India providing treatment and care to these children, and I decided that I wanted to become a part of those efforts one day.  I then began volunteering at Seattle Children’s Hospital, and worked with underprivileged American children facing diseases due to an opposite problem, over nutrition. My eyes were opened to the extreme confusion which this world is in with regards to food and the desperate need for more, well-trained, change-enacting dietitians. I desire to be one of those dietitians, and I hope to spend my future career working to educate and empower those who are most vulnerable to malnutrition.

My Future Dreams
I have many hopes and dreams in regards to my future as an R.D. I hope to work as an R.D. in an area of poverty, either in the clinical or in a community setting and then, one day, earn an MPH degree. I hope to then develop and initiate nutrition education programs in areas of economic and social suppression. I adore working with children and pediatrics is an area that I would love to gain experience in. Eventually, I hope to use this experience and education to travel back to India to assist medical teams and work with governments to provide food and nutrition education to children. Until that day, I look forward to learning and cultivating as much nutrition knowledge as I possibly can!
